Why we built HelpNow
Most neighbors who need a small amount of help never ask — and most people who would gladly give it never know. HelpNow is the thinnest possible bridge between the two.
Most of the people we've met through this project didn't need a handout. They needed one small thing — a repair, a pharmacy bill, a week of groceries — and didn't know how to ask, or who to ask, without it feeling like begging.
On the other side, the people who want to help almost never know about these needs until it's too late. They'd cover €80 in a heartbeat, but they're not reading the right Facebook group at the right hour.
The thinnest possible bridge
HelpNow exists to make that bridge as thin as possible:
- Someone posts a specific, verified need.
- A volunteer confirms it in person.
- Neighbors nearby see it and choose to cover it.
- Both sides confirm, and the outcome is logged publicly.
That's it. No donation pools. No overhead skimming. No matching algorithms. Just people doing something small for someone they might pass on the street tomorrow.
Why Vienna, why now
Favoriten, the 10th district, is where we started. It's one of the most diverse districts in the city — and one where small, practical gaps hit hardest. A broken AC in a Gemeindebau in August. A €142 electricity bill that arrives the same week a freelance client vanishes. A child's winter jacket that finally gave up.
We believe the strongest community help is specific, immediate, and visible — not vague, not someday, not hidden behind forms.
What's next
We're a soon to be verein registered in Vienna (currently operating under Swelis International e.U.), funded by small recurring contributions from people who want to keep the lights on without turning HelpNow into a fundraising engine. If you want to cover a need, browse the feed. If you need help, submit a request. If you want to volunteer verification calls — send us a message. That's the whole loop.
"It's easier to be generous when you know exactly what the need is."
Thanks for being here.
